Did Loewe Just Rip Off A Vintage Mosquitohead Shirt?

The Thread

Popular designer fashion brand, Loewe, recently released their Summer 22 collection called “Paula’s Ibiza”. The capsule collection is meant to be an “ode to the escapism and hedonism of Ibiza”, featuring bright colors and patterns throughout the collection. However, one piece of the collection caught our eye, and the eye of @slowdimevintage, for the wrong reason. Pictured below is the “Paula Peace” t-shirt from the collection.

Does this tee look familiar at all? We noticed a striking similarity to a vintage Mosquitohead print. See below for yourself.

The resemblance is most definitely there and interestingly enough, none of the other pieces in the collection seem to be inspired in this way. There is no reference of Mosquitohead on any articles or information put out by Loewe, so we can only speculate as of now.

@slowdimevintage had this to say:

“I understand brands using vintage for inspiration. It’s been happening for decades, but this shirt is Loewe taking someone’s (Paul Camina of Mosquitohead) original artwork without any credit to him or the brand. This is not like a clever logo flip. This is too similar.”

What are your thoughts? Could the design be a complete coincidence? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
