Did Value Village Steal Their Tote Design From A Vintage Reseller?
Just a few hours ago, Mark aka @thrift_sola on IG, posted how popular thrift store chain Value Village (Savers in the USA) stole his design for a tote bag he released in 2021. He personally designed the totes in 2021 and released them in June of 2021. The Totes read “I’d Rather Be Thrifting”. You can see in the comparison photos (Mark’s on the left, Value Village on the right) that the two bags are extremely similar, and it begs the question as to how Value Village came up with the idea for their totes. Very often we see big companies taking designs from smaller creators. PLUS, we already know that Value Village has an incredibly shady history and has not been an honest company (to the point of being sued by the US Government).
Until more information comes out we can’t be 100% sure, but it definitely is something to think about, and we hope we can hear a statement from Value Village sometime soon.
What do you think? Did Value Village steal their design from Mark? Let us know in the comments!
