Goodwill Goes All In On Ebay Reselling

The Thread

Goodwill has been pushing to have more of a presence selling online in the past few years. Many Goodwill stores have started to make their own eBay stores and are cherry-picking items to be sold online instead of in store, for higher prices. Usually this is just by individuals in the store who pick items based on name brands or look and put them aside to be listed online. Many of these eBay stores are run by the actual goodwill stores and are monitored by employees. However this may change in a very drastic way.

Goodwill of Colorado just announced that they are partnering with an Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning company called “hammoqinc”. This company specializes in eCommerce and is looking to “help Goodwill Colorado scale their business by doing thousands of listings a month”. This means that these Goodwill stores will be cherry-picking even more items, and putting them on eBay for higher prices instead of having them be sold in stores for cheaper.

This is just another example of corporate greed in action, and unfortunately it doesn’t seem like its going to stop any time soon. This seems to be some sort of beta plan in Colorado, but if it is successful, we can very much predict that this can become the norm in all Goodwill’s across the country.
