How Two Fold Vintage Is Taking Over Instagram

The Thread

If you’ve been on Instagram, you’ve probably seen the vintage account twofold_B. He’s an up and coming page that posts incredibly aesthetic and curated content. Ranging from 40s militaria to mohair cardigans to thrashed 90s tees, Two Fold does it all. Everything he curates fits a very specific niche and style, and that has even elevated him to sell to celebrities such as Kourtney Kardashian. We wanted to speak with him to learn more about who he is, and how he built his brand to where it is today.

Who are you?
“My name is Jae Seung Lee. I’m from Sacramento California, I’m 21 years old and the sole owner of Two Fold Vintage”.

How did you get into vintage?
“I’m pretty new to the vintage scene compared to the OG heads who know a lot more about true vintage than me. What I really focus on and appreciate is true vintage from the 40s to 70s. I got into vintage because in Sacramento we have a really good vintage community, that’s not all about competition. When I first started out, people were really open to sharing knowledge and showing me what they collected. Seeing other peoples passion really got me into collecting vintage and rare pieces. Before Two Fold I used to create fashion content on TikTok, but a lot of that got me interested into curating vintage, because its all about putting together styles for a specific aesthetic.

When you start out you can’t be really into true vintage without really knowing what youre looking at. Like many others, I started out getting into tees and 90s stuff. I started selling new age Carhartt pants that just fit a certain aesthetic”.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
“I draw my inspiration from my friends in the vintage community. To name a few: @rottencloset, @threewordthrifts, @thriftswithblake, @pearledivory“.

Thoughts on curation?
“That’s the fun thing about what I do, I don’t go buy comparable prices. I don’t buy things at a flea just because I see it sold on eBay for more. I don’t buy things if its not my curation. I’m not doing it just for the profits. For me, profit + brand image has to be there when I buy something. Everything I buy for a drop is something I would where myself, one way or the other. I buy the things that I like for me and my brand, first and foremost.

People trust me to find things that I know and they know would look good on them”.

Do better photos lead to better prices?
“Something I really like to emphasize is how a product is displayed. If you invest time into making an item look good, it leads to better conversion. The one justification I have for pages like unsound rags is that they invest so much into making their product look good. Lighting equipment and a high quality camera goes a long way and can be worth the investment in the long run”.

How did you grow the brand?
“You have a marketing budget. And there are some months where i go negative because I want to invest more in marketing. In my opinion nothing gets done from just the algorithm anymore. Marketing is crucial to success. I ran a test, where a marketing budget and not behind the same posts, and the marketing budget helped exponentially for engagement and followers.

I’ve been in contact with celebrities and their stylists, and a lot of that networking comes from running ads. That’s how I ended up selling to Kourtney Kardashian”.

Future plans for the brand?
“Next month I’m opening my showroom. me and my friend Alex are splitting a loft in midtown Sacramento, where we will hold private appointments and styling gigs for celebrities”.
