Why Are Vintage Kids Clothes So Expensive Right Now?

The Thread

If you’re skipping the kids’ rack, you’re leaving money on the table. One of the highest recent eBay clothing sales was a tiny pair of children’s overalls—a pair of Levi’s denim bibs from the early 1900s that sold at auction for $12,455. But it’s not just 100+ year-old baby denim that can be a nice payday. Strawberry Shortcake overalls from the 2000s: $450. 1990s Buzz Lightyear: $315. 1990s Clifford the Big Red Dog: $300. Y2K Barney, Care Bears, Teletubbies, even Taz—$255 and up.

It’s not just nostalgia—collectors buy them to display, decorators style them in kids’ rooms, and Disney/Pixar moms go sicko mode over a clean pair. If you find 1960s-and-earlier children’s denim, especially baby size, grab it and tax. Modern-era cartoon overalls can be a quick flip, and vintage kids’ and baby tees sell great as bundles.

Moral of the story: hit the children’s section, dig at yard sales, and don’t overlook that garage sale bin of baby clothes. Your rent could be paid in Teletubbies and Clifford jeans.
