If you’re in the California area, odds are you know about Kobey’s Swap Meet. The family-run operation is one of the largest swap meets in the country and commands heavy traffic every week. Located in San Diego, CA, Kobey’s Swap Meet is an incredibly popular flea market that houses vendors selling antiques, sneakers and vintage clothing. Vintage and Sneakers have become so popular at Kobey’s that they have their own dedicated shows and markets throughout the calendar year. Kobey’s has continued to grow within the local community and has offered thousands of opportunities to thrifters, resellers, and vintage enthusiasts alike. However, news recently came out of a new development happening in San Diego featuring 48 acres of land, which includes the land that Kobey’s Swap Meet operates on. With contract negotiations looming on the horizon, vendors and shoppers are worried of a potential closure or relocation of the famous swap meet.

Co-founder of the swap meet, Kimberley Kobey, had this to say about the matte:. “We have been approached by many of the redevelopers and our goal is for us to be included in some capacity. And each one of them have been very receptive, but we are part of the community. So we hope that in some fashion we will be here,” said Kobey. She also added that if they do have to relocate, she would hope the city would help them find a new, suitable location.

As of now Kobey’s is there to stay for atleast the next two years, and we’re hoping that they can continue to operate in the same location without any hassle. Many vendors use Kobey’s swap meet as a way to make ends meet and have said that they can not afford a possible relocation or permanent closure of the flea market.

As of now, Kobey’s will continue to operate as normal, and continue to be in negotiations with the city of San Diego. We hope they can keep their swap meet and continue to be a staple for the vintage community.
